How to film a dance transition video
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerKeep the phone in exactly the same place, end clip one on a move (a spin, jump or hand over the lens), start clip two on the same move in the new outfit or place, and cut on the beat.
Lock the camera
Same spot, same height. Mark the stand position with tape.
Common transitions
- Hand over the lens.
- Spin or jump.
- Clothes thrown at the camera.
- Snap or clap on the beat.
Edit on the beat
Cut both clips at the same point of the move, on a beat. Music beat markers, are designed to make this faster.
Questions
Do I need special effects?
No. Most transitions are just two well-matched clips.
