How to film a dance duet with yourself
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerFix the phone in place, dance the first part on one side of the frame, then the second part on the other side to the same music, and combine the two halves in an editor with a split or mask.
Lock everything
Same phone position, same zoom, same light. Any change shows at the join.
Film
- Mark the middle of the frame on the floor.
- Take 1: dance on the left.
- Take 2: dance on the right, same music from the start.
- Clap at the start of each take.
Edit
Line the takes up by the clap, then crop or mask each to its half.
Questions
Can I overlap in the middle?
Overlaps need careful masking. Staying on your side is much easier.
