How to film a slow-motion dance clip with perfect sync
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerSpeed the song up (for example 2×) while you dance, record in Slo-mo, then play the clip back at slow speed with the song at normal speed. Your moves will match the beat in slow motion.
How it works
If the video plays at half speed, the music you danced to needs to have been twice as fast.
Steps
- Make a sped-up version of the section (many editors and DJ apps can).
- Record in Slo-mo while dancing to the fast version.
- In editing, put the normal-speed song under the slowed clip.
- Line up the first beat.
Light
Slow motion needs plenty of light.
Questions
What frame rate?
120 fps for 4× or 240 fps for 8× slow motion, depending on your model.
