Filming dance videos outdoors
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerFilm in open shade or golden hour light, choose flat, safe ground, play music from the phone itself or a small speaker, and pick quieter times so you’re not dancing around passers-by.
Light
Harsh midday sun makes deep shadows. Shade or early or late light is kinder.
Ground
Flat and grippy. Check for glass and uneven paving.
Sound
Wind and traffic drown music. Many dancers re-add the track in editing.
Etiquette
Don’t block paths, and keep strangers out of shot.
Questions
Do I need permission?
Some parks and venues have filming rules. Check before you set up.
